About

I'm Hilary Ward — the designer behind Oakret Design Studio, and the person who notices the way light falls across a leaf, or the way a historical illustration can feel completely alive decades later.

Oakret is a surface pattern studio rooted in the natural world and shaped by a love of classical design traditions. I work from Alberta, where the landscape is quietly magnificent — and that stillness finds its way into everything I make. My patterns are botanical, considered, and built for the long term: designs that earn their place in a room and age gracefully on fabric, wallpaper and home goods.

Each collection begins with observation — in sketchbooks, in design references, in the details most people walk past. From there, patterns are developed slowly: tested for scale and repeat, refined for colour, and shaped into cohesive collections ready for licensing, collaboration, and custom work.

If you've landed here, you care about where your designs come from. So do I. Let’s connect to discuss how we can collaborate.

Designs with feeling — the texture of bark, the delicate architecture of a botanical illustration, the way nature repeats itself in forms both ancient and alive.
